Each of my wind drawings is a unique piece of art work. The large scale wind drawings are generated using a large tripod situated in a windy spot somewhere on the Isle of Berneray in the Outer Hebrides. The smaller circular Storm Barrel drawings may have travelled a bit as this equipment is more hardy, transportable and can be left out for long periods of time, even throughout a full storm.
Each drawing is named after the Shipping Forecast for the day on which it was made, therefore, it is a drawing record of that day's wind.
Drawings can be shipped world-wide via DHL+.
My stock of wind drawings is constantly changing, the ones featured here are merely to give you an idea of the range. So if you are interested in purchasing or commissioning a Wind drawing (to be drawn on a significant date) please CONTACT ME and I can send you further details.
Commissioned Storm Barrel framed: £950
Drawings can be shipped world-wide by DHL+.
Each Storm Barrel Drawing is unique. The drawing method was devised in order to have the potential to capture a full blown storm, of which we have many in the Hebrides.
At times it involves me donning complete waterproofs, sound footwear and letting someone know that I will be back soon!
I am always excited when I lift the lid to see what the wind has drawn, what marks have been recorded, what form it has taken, what has been the wind drawing for that day.
The Shipping Forecast, now celebrating 150+ years of service, is a lifeline for anyone making their living from the sea. So each drawing is named after the Shipping Forecast for the Hebrides on the day it was made.

Commissioned wind drawing - framed £1250 / unframed £1000

My wind drawings originated out of the elemental quality of life in the Hebrides. I spend a lot of time outdoors and on the sea, so the wind defines much of my life.
Over time I realised that it was something I needed to work with, collaborate with rather than battle which was fairly futile. So the wind drawings evolved and now I enjoy the process of setting up my wind drawing contraption and watching what beautiful marks, forms and tendencies the wind will offer up for that day.
The drawings are similar to mathematical scatter plots as they record every wind variable with the darker areas becoming the tendency over time.
Each Wind Drawing is named after the Shipping Forecast for that day, a life line for anyone making a living from the sea, so reliable and stable for the past 150+ years.
